Iran actress Vishka Asayesh gains award at US event

Iran’s Vishka Asayesh has been named the Best Actress at Winter Film Awards (WFA) in the United States for her role in the feature ‘The Badger’.

‘The Badger’, directed by Kazem Mollaee, brought Asayesh the Best Actress award at the 10th edition of WFA.

The film also grabbed the Indie Pix Award at the international film festival.

“Right before Soodeh Sharifzadegan’s second marriage, her 11-year-old son, Matiar is kidnapped. After considerable effort, Soodeh is forced to ask for the ransom money from her ex-husband. After Matiar’s release, Soodeh, being curious, comes to the sudden realization that it was all her son’s plan to lay the ground for his father’s return,” a synopsis for the film reads.

Besides Asayesh, the film is also starring Hassan Majouni and Mehraveh Sharifinia.

The film has been screened at 45 international films festivals so far and managed to bag 17 awards.

Winter Film Awards “showcases films from emerging filmmakers from around the world in all genres, with a special emphasis on highlighting the work of women and under-represented filmmakers”, the event’s website reads.

The 10th edition of the Winter Film Awards took place on September 23-October 2.
